An expert repair to a small, superficial crack emanating from the rear of the trigger guard.Overall, the walnut stock is in absolutely stunning original condition

"Gew 88" stamp on receiver. Short form for Gewehr 1888. Gewehr means rifle in German.A photo of Loewe at the dealers just prior to shipping.

1891 Ludwig Loewe model 1888 German Commission Rifle -- original superficial crack before repair

Interesting imperial German proof mark.

Interesting "V" stamp.

No rust, just old cosmoline. These rifles were normally prone to rusted barrel tubes. This barrel tube is the original, matching to the receiver and barrel!

Mismatched, but perfectly functional.

Note the "E" stamp on the base of the bolt handle. Just barely visible to the left of the "E" stamp is an encircled "Z" stamp -- indicative of Czech (Brno) manufacture.

Some minor pitting, blued over.

Just prior to its first cleaning and oiling -- fresh out of arsenal storage!Note the Turkish caret symbols on the base of the bolt handle.

Another angle and close-up of Imperial proofs.

A number of interesting Imperial German proofs on base of the original 120 year old, reinforced German barrel.

This trigger assembly must have been expertly "tuned" by its former Turkish "owners", as it functions flawlessly, lightly, and incredibly smoothly.

Left side butt stock before it got cleaned.

Rear sight leaf. The original numbers were ground off and replaced with Turkish symbols, then ground off again and replaced with numbers again some time in the 1930's. If only this old girl could talk! The rear sight is perfectly functional, but has mism

How many 120 year old WELL USED rifles have metal in this condition? NOT MANY!
